Anthony Vaughan
BDS, FDSRCPS, FDSRCS, MRDRCS

I qualified in dentistry at Guys Dental Hospital in 1981, and pursued General Professional Training, obtaining the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow in 1986.

In 1987 I began my specialist training with The Eastman Dental Hospital (associated with the Institute of Dental Surgery, University of London). This included a three month elective clinical study attachment in the Prosthodontics Department of the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. In June 1992 I was appointed to the newly created post of Consultant in Restorative Dentistry for the South Devon Healthcare Trust at Torbay Hospital and for the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

I have been supporting the dentists in this region as their Heath Trust Consultant and with my private consultancy practice for over ten years.

I am registered on both the Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontic Specialist Lists held by the General Dental Council. I am married to Kerry (another dentist), we have three children and we live near Plymouth.

Patients are referred to me after consultation with their own general dental practitioners.

My Continuing responsibilities
to the profession.

From 1994, I have also held a position as a post-graduate tutor in Dental Practice with the University of Bristol. Responsibilities have included the organisation and facilitation of training courses throughout the region. In 1996 in recognition of this work I was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery (without examination) by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and subsequently joined the board of Examiners of the RCSE and I am an Examiner for membership in respect of Restorative Dentistry.

I am a Council member of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry (B.S.R.D.) and a previous member of the Council of the British Society of Periodontal (B.S.P.) and Council of the Association of Consultants and Specialists in Restorative Dentistry (A.C.S.R.D.)

I was part of the successful bid committee for the Peninsula Dental School. I provide plenary lectures and teaching clinics as an Honorary University Fellow of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry.

BDA and ADI

My continuing professional interest is in the rehabilitation of the dentition from both aesthetic and functional perspective, which may include treatments such as crown and bridgework, removable dentures often including the use of dental implants.
